Hello, this is Kaitlin!
Today, I’m excited to share a circle bag that’s perfect for spring and summer.
I made two sizes:a hand-held Size M,
and a shoulder-style Size L.
For the M size, I used MIEL by Pierrot Yarns,
which comes in a wide range of adorable colors!
For the L size, I used Amian, also by Pierrot Yarns.
It’s a matte-textured washi (Japanese paper) yarn
that gives your bags and hats a beautifully refined finish!
Materials for size M:
・3 skeins MIEL col.01 (110m - 120m/110g)or other worsted yarn The pink yarn used in the video is col. 10.
・4.00mm crochet hook
・Tapestry needle
・Makers
・Scissors
・Measuring tape
・Steam iron
Materials for size L:
・6 skeins Amian col.24 (86m/40g)or other worsted yarn
・ 1 skein Cotton Neat col.601 (55m/40g) (for making a tassel)
・3.50mm crochet hook
・Tapestry needle
・Makers
・Scissors
・Measuring tape
・Steam iron
Gauge for size M:
17.5sts × 18.5rows = 10cm × 10cm in single crochet
Gauge for size L:
18sts × 19rows = 10cm × 10cm in single crochet
Finished Measurements – Size M:
Body Diameter: approx.27cm
Height: approx. 8cm
Handle Length: approx.34cm
Finished Measurements – Size L:
Body Diameter: approx.36cm
Height: approx. 9cm
Handle Length: approx.54cm
Round Piece
Begin with a magic ring and work Round 1.
Use a size 4.00 mm crochet hook for Size M,
or a size 3.50 mm crochet hook for Size L.
Rnd 1
ch 1 as turning chain, 1 hdc(half double crochet) in the ring, ch 1,
*1 puff stitch with 2 hdc, ch1 * repeat ** 4 more times (5 times total).
Switch hands and pull the magic ring tight. (See video)
sl st into the top of the second hdc,
then sl st into the next ch 1 space (under both loops).
Rnd 2
ch1 as turning chain, 1 hdc in same ch sp, ch 1,
*1 puff stitch with 2 hdc, ch 1* repeat ** 10 more times (11 times total). Work all hdc and puff stitches into the chain spaces
of the previous round (under both loops).
Note: In this pattern, rounds of single crochet are worked without a turning chain.
Rnd 3
30 sc around.
(Work the first sc into the top of the hdc of the previous round,
and the rest into the chain spaces, under both loops.)
Rnd 4:

Rnd 21:
*6 sc, inc, 17 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (150 sts total)
This is the end of the size M.
Place a marker in the loop currently on the needle,
then cut the yarn, leaving a tail about 24 times the diameter of the finished piece.
To prevent tangling, loosely wind the yarn tail.
Crochet a second identical piece.
As you work, refer to the size of the first piece to ensure they match.
Once both pieces are complete,
use a steam iron to block the fabric by hovering the iron
and applying plenty of steam to shape and smooth the surface.
For size L, continue with the following rounds.
Rnd 22:
*19 sc, inc, 5 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (156 sts total)
After completing the rnd, sl st into the top of the first sc to join,
then pull the yarn to tighten the stitch.

ch 1, 1 hdc, ch 1, *1puff stitch with 2 hdc, ch1* repeat ** 82 more times.
(Refer to the chart for puff stitch placement.)
Rnd 24:
174 sc around
(Work the first sc into the top of the hdc of the prev rnd.
For all other stitches, work into the ch sps.)
Rnd 25:
*15 sc, inc, 13 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (180 sts total)
Rnd 26:
*8 sc, inc, 21 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (186 sts total)
Rnd 27:
*24 sc, inc, 6 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (192 sts total)
Rnd 28:
*inc, 31 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (198 sts total)
Rnd 29:
*17 sc, inc, 15 sc* repeat ** 5 more times. (204 sts total)
Finish off the same way as for the size M:
place a marker in the loop currently on the needle, cut the yarn,
leaving a tail about 22 times the diameter of the finished piece,
and loosely wind the yarn from the end to prevent tangling.
Make another identical piece. As you work,
compare it with the first piece to ensure they are the same size.
Once both pieces are complete,
shape the fabric by hovering a steam iron over it and applying plenty of steam.
Next, let’s crochet the rectangular piece.
【 size M 】
Chain 14 to begin the foundation chain.
Row 1:
ch 1 as turning chain, 14 sc
☆ After working the turning chain, pull the yarn to tighten it.
Repeat this for every row.
☆ Work all sc stitches into the back bump of the foundation chain.
Row 2:
ch 1 as turning chain, pull the yarn to tighten it , turn your work, 14 sc
Rows 3–111:
Repeat the instructions for Row 2.
(The piece should measure approximately 8 cm wide and 60 cm long.)
☆ For size M, aim for about 5.4 cm in height after completing 10 rows.
To finish, chain 1, then cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm tail.
Pull the yarn through the final chain to fasten off.
Steam block the fabric by hovering a steam iron
and applying plenty of steam to smooth and shape it.
【 size L】
Chain 16 to begin the foundation chain.
Row 1:
ch 1 as turning chain, 16 sc
☆ After working the turning chain, pull the yarn to tighten it.
Repeat this for every row.
☆ Work all sc stitches into the back bump of the foundation chain.
Row 2:
ch 1 as turning chain, pull the yarn to tighten it, turn your work, 16 sc
Rows 3–145:
Repeat the instructions for Row 2.
(The piece should measure approximately 9 cm wide and 76 cm long.)
☆ For size L, aim for about 5.2 cm in height after completing 10 rows.
To finish, chain 1, then cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm tail.
Pull the yarn through the final chain to fasten off.
Steam block the fabric by hovering a steam iron
and applying plenty of steam to smooth and shape it.
How to Change Yarn
When changing yarn on a right-side (RS) row:
Change yarn while the single crochet (sc) is still unfinished.
Bring the old yarn tail over the hook from front to back.
Place the new yarn on the far side (the back) of the fabric,
yarn over with the new yarn,
and pull through all three loops on the hook at once.
Continue crocheting a few stitches while working over both yarn tails to secure them.
When changing yarn on a wrong-side (WS) row:
Again, change yarn with the sc still unfinished.
Bring the old yarn tail over the hook from back to front.
Place the new yarn on the near side (the front) of the fabric,
yarn over with the new yarn,
and pull through all three loops on the hook at once.
Do not crochet over the yarn tails—
just leave them resting and continue working with the new yarn.
Now it's time to assemble the pieces.
Assembly – Joining the Circular and Rectangular Pieces
Join the circular pieces to the rectangular piece to form the shape of the bag.
Align the pieces with right sides facing out.
Size M:
Pick up 108 stitches from the edge of the circular piece,
starting from the beginning of the round.
Then, pick up 108 stitches from the edge rows of the rectangular piece.
Join the two pieces together using single crochet as you go.
Move to the next stitch on the circular piece
and the next row on the rectangular piece.
After joining 27 stitches, skip 1 row on the rectangular piece only.
Repeat this pattern—join 27 stitches, skip 1 row—two more times,
then join the final 27 stitches. (Total: 108 stitches joined)
The remaining 42 stitches form the bag opening.
Place markers at both ends of the opening.
Repeat the same process to join the other circular piece to the other side of the rectangular piece,
again with right sides facing out.
Once all parts are joined,
hover a steam iron and apply plenty of steam to smooth and shape the fabric.
Size L:
Pick up 136 stitches from the edge of the circular piece,
starting from the beginning of the round.
Then, pick up 136 stitches from the edge rows of the rectangular piece.
Join the two pieces together using single crochet as you go.
Move to the next stitch on the circular piece
and the next row on the rectangular piece.
After joining 14 stitches, skip 1 row on the rectangular piece only.
Refer to Assembly Diagram 4/4 to check
which stitches to join and which rows to skip. (Total: 136 stitches joined)
The remaining 68 stitches form the bag opening.
Place markers at both ends of the opening.
Repeat the same process to join the other circular piece to the other side of the rectangular piece,
again with right sides facing out.
Once all parts are joined,
hover a steam iron and apply plenty of steam to smooth and shape the fabric.
Now let’s make the handles.
Start by making the core part. For both M and L sizes,
begin by leaving a 80 cm tail and making a foundation chain.
For size M, continue chaining until the chain measures about 30 cm.
For size L, continue until it measures about 58 cm.
The exact number of chains doesn’t matter.
To finish, make one more chain stitch,
then cut the yarn leaving another 80 cm tail,
and pull the yarn through the final chain to fasten off.
Make a second identical piece.
Thread the yarn tail of each chain onto a tapestry needle,
and attach the handles to the designated positions on the circular pieces.
From the left-side marker, count toward the bag opening:
For Size M, insert the handle 10 stitches in and 4 rounds up from the edge.
For Size L, insert the handle 22 stitches in and 4 rounds up from the edge.
Insert the needle from the outside (RS) to the inside (WS),
and pull the yarn through,
leaving 4 rounds of space from the edge.
Insert the needle through the starting end of the chain from the inside to the outside,
and pull the yarn through again.
Then, reinsert the needle into the same position as before and pull the yarn through.
Repeat this process about 10 times to secure the handle.
Once the yarn is fully secured,
weave the yarn tail through the back bumps of the foundation chain in a zigzag pattern.
After progressing a few stitches,
change direction and zigzag again to weave in the end neatly.
Next, thread the opposite yarn tail of the same foundation chain onto a tapestry needle.
From the right-side marker, count toward the bag opening and attach the handle as follows:
Size M: At the 9th stitch and 4 rounds up from the edge
Size L: At the 21st stitch and 4 rounds up from the edge
Attach the chain using the same method as before.
Repeat the same process to attach the second foundation chain to the opposite circular piece.
Now, work twisted single crochet stitches over the chain.
Size M: Work approximately 65 stitches
Size L: Work approximately 100 stitches
Repeat this process two more times,
working three layers of twisted single crochet in total.
As you work, try to cover the previous row of stitches
and keep the stitch count as consistent as possible.
Once finished, apply steam to the handle to remove any curling or waviness.
Tassel – For Size M
Leave a 30 cm yarn tail and begin working a foundation chain.
Continue chaining until the chain measures approximately 30 cm.
After making one more chain, cut the yarn, leaving another 30 cm tail,
and pull the yarn through the final chain to fasten off.
Next, fold a strand of yarn back and forth 30 times,
each fold being 25 cm long, to create a bundle.
Tie the center of the bundle using one of the yarn tails from the chain you just made, positioning the chain close to the center knot.
Knot it several times to secure it,
then fold the bundle in half at the knot.
Take another strand of yarn about 20 cm long,
and tie it around the bundle about 2 cm down from the top fold.
Knot it securely a few times,
then use a tapestry needle to hide the yarn tails
by inserting them into the center of the bundle.
Next, leave a 15 cm yarn tail and make a foundation chain of 2 stitches.
After working the turning chain, just as with the rectangular piece,
work 2 single crochet stitches into the back bumps of the foundation chain.
Ch 1, turn your work, and crochet 2 single crochet stitches across again with no increases or decreases.
Repeat this process until you have about 7 rows in total.
After finishing the final row, make one more chain stitch.
Then cut the yarn, leaving a 15 cm tail,
and pull the yarn through the last chain to fasten off.
Thread the yarn tail onto a tapestry needle
and wrap the crocheted piece around the knot of the tassel.
Use whipstitch to sew together the starting and ending stitches.
Also pick up the edge stitches and make about three stitches to secure the wrap.
Then, guide the needle through the back of the wrapped fabric—
by feel—and bring it out on top of the fabric.
Insert the yarn end into the center of the tassel.
Tuck the starting yarn tail directly into the center of the tassel as well.
Cut the loops of the yarn bundle and trim the ends evenly to shape the tassel.
Repeat the same process to attach a tassel to the other side of the foundation chain.
Finish by steaming the tassels to remove any waves or kinks from the yarn before attaching them to the bag.
Tassel – For Size L
Use Cotton Neat yarn.
Fold a strand of yarn back and forth 14 times, each fold measuring 60 cm.
Fold an 80 cm length of yarn in half and tie a knot
so that the knot is positioned about 7 cm from the folded end.
Use the two yarn tails from the knot to secure the center of the bundle.
Tie it several times to prevent it from coming undone,
then fold the bundle in half at the knot.
Next, take a 120 cm length of yarn, fold it in half,
and thread the two loose ends through the folded loop to attach it to the area
where you tied the yarn earlier. (See video Part ③ at 21:24)
Carefully wrap the two yarn tails around the top of the bundle—
starting just below the knot—about 5 times downward,
then wrap them back upward another 5 times.
Hold the wrapped section tightly to keep it secure,
then thread the ends onto a tapestry needle
and insert them into the center of the bundle.
Cut the loops at the bottom of the tassel to open them up,
and trim the ends evenly to shape it.
Finish by steaming the tassel to remove any waves or kinks in the yarn before attaching it to the bag.
Once you've attached the tassels to the bag, it's complete!
Great job!
Take your new bag out and enjoy lots of adventures with it♪
Adding a scalloped edging around the bag would make it even cuter!
