Hello, this is Kaitlin.
Today, I will show you how to make this beginner-friendly snood.
By using a variegated yarn and a fluffy, thin white yarn held together, the color will appear more vibrant, and the variegated effect will blend in nicely.
This design is suitable for both men and women, so it's a great gift idea.
Materials:
・4 skeins Erfurt col.04 (88m/40g)or other worsted yarn
・3 skeins Nimes col.01 (133m/25g)or other fingering weight yarn
・6.60mm needles
・Tapestry needle
・Makers
・Scissors
・Measuring tape
・Steam iron
Gauge:
16 sts × 23 rows = 10 cm × 10 cm in stocking stitch
Sizes:
Width: approx. 30 cm
Length: approx. 150 cm (total length)
Start by holding two strands of yarn together and make the cast on with the long tail cast on method.
***In this pattern, the cast on row counts as the first row.
Once you've completed 48 stitches for the cast on,
turn your work and start the second row.
For the second row, we will be working on the 'wrong side,' so follow the opposite instructions from the chart.
Knit 1 , then purl 1 . Repeat this sequence 3 more times.
Next, purl 32 stitches.
Then, purl 1 , knit 1 . Repeat this sequence 3 more times.
The stitch count remains the same, and you should have 48 stitches.
Turn the work around and begin the third row.
For the third row, we will be working on the 'right side,' so follow the chart instructions.
Knit 1 , purl 1 . Repeat this sequence 3 more times.
Next, knit 32 stitches.
Then, purl 1 , knit 1 . Repeat this sequence 3 more times.
The stitch count remains the same, and you should have 48 stitches.
From the fourth row onward, repeat the instructions for the second and third rows.
For even-numbered rows, follow the same instructions as the second row,
and for odd-numbered rows, follow the same instructions as the third row.
Continue until row 346.
How to Change Yarn
Change yarn at the edge of the fabric.
Since this project is worked with two strands held together,
replace only the strand that has become short,
and do so at the edge of the work.
Leave about a 10 cm tail of the new yarn,
and begin knitting with the new strand held together with the remaining strand from before,
continuing as usual with two strands held together.
Once you've reached row 346, use the Kitchener stitch to join the beginning and ending edges.
Weave in the yarn ends.
For yarn changes made at the edges,
twist the two strands together first,
then weave in each end separately.
Weave in the ends either at the edge of the fabric,
or horizontally on the wrong side by splitting the purl bumps.
(Note: In the video, the ends are woven in at the edge,
but working horizontally is less noticeable during use.)
Use a steam iron to gently hover over the fabric
and apply plenty of steam to block and smooth the piece.
Your snood is now complete.Great job!
This project does not involve any difficult techniques, making it perfect for beginners.
